In the hard drive of our System, we have a small partition called “The System Reserve Partition”, it stores the boot data of our system. When this System Reserved Partition get filled that is when it is running out of space, we will get this error message.

Advanced users can overcome this type of errors by their own when they are experienced in using the command lines.
First of-all determine the type of System Reserve Partition in your system whether it is GPT-GUID Partition Table or MBR-Master Boot Record partition style.
Master Boot Record (MBR) – it is a type of disk used as the standard BIOS partition table.
GUID Partition Table (GPT) – it is type of disk used as Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI).
On comparing Master Boot Record (MBR) and GUID Partition Table (GPT), we can say GUID Partition Table is better than Master Boot Record and this is because GUID Partition Table supports over a larger amount of storage in the range of two terabytes that is 1,099,511,627,776 bytes where as Master Boot Record does as that much storage capacity.
To resolve this from installation error caused the by the over storage of the system reserved partition, you should free up some space on the system reserved partition, else you can add some extend the partition of your system.
Here’s the four ways to over-come the error message - “We couldn’t update system reserved partition”
Way 1: Extension of the system reserved partition.
To Extend the system reserved partition the disk management may not be available due to the un allocation of the space behind the system reserved partition. Usually the C: drive -system partition is situated right behind the system reserved partition.

Way 2: Free up space on the system reserved partition.
To bring up the Run Window press “Windows key + R”.
It will display a disk management screen in that screen you have to type “diskmgmt.msc” in the box and then press enter to submit that.
At this disk management screen, click the system reserved partition and then select “Change Drive Letter and Paths”.
It will take you to another screen, and there you have to choose “Add”.
Then press “Z” as the drive letter and Click “Ok” to conform.
Here you will get another screen and you have to search “disk clean” in the search box and then select the “disk clean”.
There you will get a pop-up message in the drive selection windows, there you have to select Z: drive and then click “Ok” to proceed.
There you will get a list of instructions, read that instructions carefully and complete the disk clean up.
Now you will get sufficient amount of space in your System Reserved Partition to upgrade your windows.
Way 3: Turn on your Local disk C drive into an active partition.
Turning on your C drive into active partition will definitely help you to get rid of from thus error message. It is absolutely simple solution for the error message “We couldn’t update system reserved partition”
After Turning on your C drive into active partition, restart your system and then try to update your system, it will definitely work.
Way 4: Deleting the Fonts Files.
Deleting the Fonts Files is one of the best ways to get rid of this error message “We couldn’t update system reserved partition”
Follow the following steps to delete the font files.
Step 1: Click the start menu and search for the “command prompt”.
Step 2: In the “command prompt” click on the right side and press “Run as administrator”.
Step 3: In the window of the command prompt, type in as y: /s and then press the enter button.
Step 4: Then again type as y: and then press enter.
Step 5: Type in as cd in the next screen and then EFI\Microsoft\Boot\Fonts and then hit enter.
Step 6: Type del*.* and then press enter.
Step 7: Now conform your deletion.
One can over-come from the error message “We couldn’t update system reserved partition” by following the four ways mentioned above.
